1.       Importance of Systems Maintenance
a.    Correct errors in the software that were not discovered and corrected during the testing process.
b.    Enhance the system.

2.       Performers Systems Maintenance
a.    System Analyst & Programmer – In-House Design
b.    Software vendor – purchased software
c.     Committee of managers & information system professionals – review requests for change

3.       Strategies For Reducing Maintenance Costs
a.    Structured analysis and design approach
Structured analysis and design will significantly reduce the problems of modifying the system.
b.    Good documentation
It is essential to good maintenance, most too often documentation neglected as people do not see documentation to be a very important process. 
c.     Higher level of computer language
To produce the system, the easier the maintenance will be.

4.       Types Of Systems Maintenance
i.         Corrective Maintenance
-          It is the elimination of errors and problems in the system.
-          Errors and problems can be reduced by better analysis and design and by strict quality control standards and initial testing
ii.       Adaptive Maintenance
-          Modification or changes made to the software to accommodate new user requirements
-          Can be avoided or minimized by building flexibility into the initial system by making programs as portable as possible.

iii.      Perfective Maintenance
-          Improving software’s efficiency or modifying the software to fit more precisely to the needs of the user and organizational needs, system efficiency and enhancing documentation
