CHAPTER 5: SYSTEMS ANALYSIS – DEVELOPING ANALYSIS PLAN
1. Categories of the business process change
i. Business Process Automation
Involves automating some aspects of a business process through the use and application of information technology with the intention of improving the business process efficiency.
ii. Business Process Improvement
Improvement goes up one step further than business process automation in that before automating a process, it recommends that the employees involved in the process should look for ways to incremently improve it.
iii. Business Process Reengineering
It means changing the fundamental ways in which the organization operates eliminating the existing way of doing business and the organization operates eliminating the existing way of doing business and making major changes to take advantage of new ideas and new technology.
2. Basic Steps In The System Analysis Process
i. Understand the Existing System and Identify Improvement Opportunities
The existing system as the new system may need:
- Some of the functionality in the existing system will be required in the new system
- Some of the data In the existing system is of a value and must be migrated to the new system
- Technical documentation of the existing system may provide details of processing algorithm in the new system
- The existing systems may have defects that should be avoided in the system
ii. Analyze Requirements for the Proposed System
- Identifies user information needs and new systems requirements
